Searcher 

Alston Law is part of the Moray Legal Group and is a leading conveyancing and debt recovery brand in Scotland. We deal with all aspects of conveyancing; including sales and purchases, remortgages, corrective conveyancing, first registrations and drafting lending documentation for lenders. 

We have an opportunity for a Searcher in our growing Remortgages Processing Team based in Glasgow. This small, friendly team carry out all conveyancing aspects of remortgage transactions. 

The role involves carrying out searches, extracting the relevant information from the Registers of Scotland database, and inputting and recording information into the case management system. 

In this role you will: 

  • Complete searches for the property areas of the business and external clients 
  • Enter Advance Notices into searches  
  • Carry out searches in the Register of Inhibitions and trace Titles on ScotLIS 
  • Carry out searches in the Register of Insolvency via the AIB Register 
  • Compile property descriptions suitable for use in security documents with supervision 

Required experience and skills for this role includes: 

  • Familiarity with Registers Direct. 
  • Understanding and use of information obtained from Registers of Scotland. 
  • Familiarity with The Register of Insolvencies 
  • Excellent attention to detail  
  • Previous use of case management systems 
  • Able to follow business policies and systems to deliver agreed SLA’s

Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Location: Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh

Moray Group’s legal division (that at present includes Alston Law, Esson & Aberdein and Simpson & Marwick) is seeking to appoint a Director and Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution to help grow a national leading dispute resolution and litigation practice.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to join a hugely ambitious law firm within a dynamic and progressive professional services group to build a distinctly different litigation and dispute resolution department and team.

With offices in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh and a flexible and progressive IT infrastructure, the Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution role will be a truly national appointment, with new offices and legal brands being added on an ongoing basis to drive growth.

In this role you will:

  • Act as the main day to day point of contact for clients on a variety of matters but with a major focus on complex litigation.
  • Build on existing client relationships and develop new ones.
  • Guide and mentor members of the team.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and to raise the profile of the firm externally.
  • Develop professionally and personally.

 

Required experience and skills for this role includes:

  • Strong experience of commercial litigation in Scotland, ideally with experience in property litigation, insolvency and debt recovery.
  • An interest in technology and legal technology.
  • Qualified in Scots law (Dual qualification in Scotland and England is desirable but not essential)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work with a significant degree of independence.
  • Experience of leading a team.

 

You will have significant commercial litigation and dispute resolution experience in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session with strong client relationship skills, experience of supervising a team of lawyers, paralegals and trainees and the ability and desire to develop and grow relationships with existing clients and help win new clients.

You will ideally also have experience in acting for FCA authorised lenders and will have a strong interest in technology.

Litigation Solicitor or Senior Solicitor (Lender Services) – NQ-4yrs PQE

 

Location: Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to join a hugely ambitious law firm within a dynamic and progressive professional services group to help build a distinctly different litigation and dispute resolution department and team.

In this role you will:

  • Run a significant and varied caseload for key financial services clients, including banks and mortgage lenders.
  • Provide competent strategic and commercial legal advice upon a range of contentious disputes and claims under supervision of more senior members of the team.
  • Deliver excellent client service informed by a knowledge of clients’ business, key drivers and requirements.
  • Assist more senior solicitors, associates and directors on larger cases.
  • Be responsible for own financial management and billing.
  • Participate in business development activities with clients and potential clients.
  • Assist with production of legal updates and knowhow development.
  • Supervise trainee solicitors and other members of the team.

 

Required experience and skills for this role includes:

  • A Scots law qualified solicitor from NQ level – 4 years’ PQE.
  • Ideally experienced in acting in the financial services sector in contentious matters.
  • Should ideally be from a top Scottish law firm, with commercial experience.
  • Experience of running own caseload of litigation matters (subject to supervision).
  • Good understanding of Sheriff Court Procedure and experience on your feet.
  • Keen to establish excellent relationships with clients and deliver excellent client service.
  • Keen and enthusiastic to learn and develop.
  • Able to operate effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and self-management skills.

Good experience in a commercial litigation and dispute resolution department of a well-regarded firm, along with experience in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session will be of benefit. You will ideally also have experience in acting for FCA authorised lenders, have an interest in technology and legal technology and be keen to be involved in business development.

Legal Cashier

We have an extremely exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Cashier based in our Glasgow offices. This is a permanent fulltime position with the opportunity for the right candidate to develop their existing skill set and experience in a dynamic, busy environment.

Your duties will include:

  • Processing high volume CHAPS payments in line with company procedures
  • Banking client and office accounts
  • Processing invoices received to matter ledgers
  • Processing remittance advices for all supplier payments
  • Preparation of weekly/monthly billing in line with client requirements
  • Ensuring decisions on receipts and payments are in line with the Law Society, the firm, and client’s requirements
  • Liaising with fee earners and suppliers, maintaining a good working relationship inside and outside of the firm
  • Assisting with bank reconciliations
  • Providing timely information to other members of the Accounts team and the wider firm
  • Understanding and adhering to the Law Society of Scotland accounts rules

Essential requirements:

  • Previous legal accounts experience minimum of 2 years
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently to deadlines
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
  • Ability to work under pressure
